250 years of TU Clausthal - Transformative since 1775
Clausthal University of Technology celebrates its 250th birthday with a grandiose ceremony. Lower Saxony's Minister President Olaf Lies and 600 guests, including numerous alumni of the university, experience how much future there is in it.
The celebratory event was a reflection of the vibrancy, cohesion and creativity that the University of the Harz still radiates after a quarter of a millennium, just as it did on the first day.
Sustainability, transformation and, of course, circular economy, the guiding theme of Clausthal University of Technology: these terms ran like a common thread through the speeches, films, interviews and panel discussion. Clausthal University President Dr. Sylvia Schattauer was also able to welcome the Minister of Science, Falko Mohrs, and his State Secretary, Prof. Joachim Schachtner, alongside the Minister President. Lies, an expert on Clausthal University of Technology, praised its proximity to business, internationality and impressive ability to combine tradition with further development in a profitable way. "Isn't the mining of yesterday the recycling of today," he said. And in view of Clausthal's topics such as raw materials, materials, energy and digitalization, the Minister President stated: "You won't have to worry in the next 50 years either, because we need this university to conduct research on key issues of the future. Clausthal University of Technology has a firm place in the higher education landscape, not only in Lower Saxony, but also in Germany and beyond."
Clausthal University of Technology has stood for transformation capability since 1775. "It has always understood how to adapt its research to current challenges, making it fit for the big questions of the 21st century," emphasized the university president.
