38 Germany Scholarships Awarded at Clausthal University of Technology

At the certificate presentation ceremony in the main lecture hall, the scholarship recipients have the opportunity to network with their sponsors.

The Germany Scholarship is a success story. The number of recipients is rising both nationwide and at Clausthal University of Technology. At this year’s award ceremony in the Audimax, 38 certificates were presented. For one year, the selected national and international students will receive 300 euros per month.

“The most important group at this event is our scholarship recipients. Today we are honoring your outstanding achievements and your social commitment. I extend an equally warm welcome to the sponsors, without whom the Germany Scholarship would not be possible.” With these words, Dr.-Ing. Sylvia Schattauer, President of Clausthal University of Technology, opened the award ceremony. Around 60 participants were present in the main auditorium.

For the Germany Scholarship, half of the funding comes from the federal government and the other half from companies and private donors. “This support helps us greatly, especially in these challenging times. In addition, we have the opportunity to connect with our sponsors and build a network,” said scholarship recipient Ian Alexander Nesbitt, speaking on behalf of everyone.

What do the students plan to do with the funding?

After a video on “250 Years of Clausthal University of Technology,” many attendees took the opportunity during the certificate presentation to say a few personal words. The scholarship recipients shared their plans for the funds. The answers were varied: buying a new computer, expanding their personal home lab, investing in fee-based AI systems, reducing the financial burden on their parents, or cutting back on part-time work alongside their studies.

For the sponsors, it is important to support talent and keep it in the region. “What I have achieved professionally has a lot to do with TU Clausthal. Now I want to give something back,” said alumnus Dr. Roland Handl, who studied and earned his doctorate in the Upper Harz region in the 1970s: “I’ve worked in China, the U.S., and Brazil, so I can say: The education in the Harz region is far better than there.” Supporters of multiple scholarship recipients include the Friends of Clausthal University of Technology Association, TÜV Nord, the Stahlwerk Georgsmarienhütte and Hans Joachim Tessner Foundations, and Sympatec GmbH.

Guided tour of the geology collection to conclude the event

The event was organized by Andrea Langhorst, who oversees the Germany Scholarship at TU Clausthal—alongside Prof. Gunther Brenner and the Study Center. Following the official portion, the celebration continued in the Geosammlung with guided tours led by Dr. Wilfried Ließmann and Prof. Thomas Ulrich. Afterward, all participants mingled over drinks and light refreshments.
