2025 Graduation Ceremony

236 young people have successfully completed their studies at Clausthal University of Technology. Their degrees were celebrated at a ceremony held in the Aula Academica.

These graduates are the future alumni of Clausthal University of Technology.

“I would like to congratulate you from the bottom of my heart on your achievements. Nothing less than the future lies in your hands,” said University President Dr.-Ing. Sylvia Schattauer during the ceremony in the Kuppelsaal of the Aula Academica. “I hope that you take with you not only your academic knowledge and personal growth, but also friends who will remain with you long after your time as students. These deep personal connections are part of what makes our small university special.”

In the summer semester of 2025, a total of 81 bachelor’s and 120 master’s degrees, as well as 35 doctorates, were awarded. In the presence of family and friends, the graduates were given a festive send-off.

Honorary Mayor Thomas Gundermann congratulated those present on behalf of the city of Clausthal-Zellerfeld and expressed his hope to see some of them again soon. “My heart warms every time I walk through the city and students come toward me.”

Conquer the world

“At TU Clausthal, you have acquired all the skills that are in demand today. Continue to adapt to change,” urged Cornelia Rebbereh, chairwoman of the Friends of TU Clausthal Association. She warmly invited the graduates to join the Clausthal alumni network, which was represented by an information booth in the auditorium. “But most importantly today: Celebrate your success!”

In an emotional commencement speech, graduate Beatriz Paiva de Fonseca looked back on her time as a student, emphasizing the unique challenges faced by international students. “It wasn’t enough to understand the material; we had to understand it in German.” She thanked the family members, friends, and professors in attendance for their support. “Each of us knows the feeling of doubt. How often were we asked during our studies whether this path was the right one? We have triumphed, and we will conquer the world.”

Special Achievements Honored

Prof. René Wilhelm (Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Material Sciences), Prof. Jens-André Paffenholz (Vice Dean of the Faculty of Energy and Economic Sciences), and Prof. Armin Lohrengel (Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics/Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering) presented the diplomas together with the President.

Waithera Gakio was awarded the DAAD Prize for International Students and Doctoral Candidates for outstanding academic achievements and exceptional social engagement. Laura Henke and Dr. Jana Zimmermann received the Friends’ Association Award. Dr. Ulrich Nordmeyer was honored for outstanding achievements during his family leave. This year’s Rudolf Vogel Foundation Award went to Vadmin Bobrov. Additionally, Putra Siahaan and Philipp Kurczinski were delighted to receive the Wolfgang Helms Foundation Award.

The academic ceremony was organized by the Continuing Education and Event Management Office at Clausthal University of Technology, led by Maria Schütte, in collaboration with the Registrar’s Office. At the reception that followed, featuring sparkling wine and beer from the research brewery, the graduates rounded off the evening together with their guests. Hosea Simanjuntak provided the musical accompaniment for the event on the piano.

A recording of the academic ceremony and a compilation of the highlights are available on the university’s video server.
