TU Clausthal strengthens its cooperation with China via the alumni network

Led by TU President Dr. Sylvia Schattauer, the university is inspiring its extensive alumni network in China to find new ways of working together.

The delegation from the Harz region spent a week visiting universities and companies in Chengdu and Shanghai in order to strengthen existing university partnerships, expand industrial cooperation and strengthen the alumni network.

The focus was on visits to companies such as Siemens in Chengdu, Volkswagen Automotive, Shanghai Electric and the Schaeffler Group Shanghai. The Clausthal delegation repeatedly met alumni of the University of the Harz. For example, the head of the Shanghai branch of the German technology group Heraeus, Dr. Zhouping Ai, is a former Clausthal alumnus, as are the founders of successful start-ups (e.g. Welle Environmental Group, Muwelt Environmental Technology and Senschain Co. Ltd.). "This network is a door opener for us. In future, we want to use it even more to facilitate industrial internships for our students or scientific projects for our researchers," says Sylvia Schattauer.

The activities of Clausthal University of Technology are in line with the German Research Foundation (DFG). As part of "25 Years of the Chinese-German Center in Beijing", DFG President Prof. Katja Becker made it clear on 17 October that China remains an important partner for German science, even in geopolitically challenging times.
